Renault Zoe (12 - Present)
The Renault Zoe is an all-electric powered supermini, it competes with traditional superminis like the Ford Fiesta, VW Polo and Renaults own Clio. The Zoe is actually based on the same platform as the Clio but is slightly longer and higher. The extra height is thanks to the placement of the battery pack, it's positioned under the seats and results in a slightly raised seating position. The 87bhp provided by the Zoe's powertrain is more than adequate for driving around urban areas and is quite relaxing and enjoyable, but the Zoe struggles on longer stretches at higher speeds. You are unlikely to do many long journeys in the little Renault as the range on a full charge is limited to 240 kilometers and it takes 6 to 8 hours to achieve a full charge.
You can purchase a Renault Zoe from just €17,490 but you do need to rent the battery from Renault for a monthly fee starting at €49 per month. In terms of safety the Zoe achieved the maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety tests. If you are in the market for a relatively cheap, economical, environmentally friendly car and you have a short daily commute the Zoe may be the perfect choice.
