Review
Ford S-Max (06 - present)
The best thing about the S-Max is how cleverly it uses space. That makes it a favourite with Irish families. Added to that is its poised handling. It drives like a normal hatchback. Also a big attraction is the excellent driving position and the quality of the drive. The only downside is that there can be some road noise from time to time, but it wouldn’t be enough to make a journey unpleasant. On top of all this, the S-Max is hugely practical. The cabin can comfortably seat seven and you can fold down the rear-most seats to carry five and their luggage and still have room. The engines are quite nippy; there are four to choose from and they are all frugal on fuel and low on emissions.
Look out for
• There were some reports of the duel mass flywheel failing early on

• Spacious cabin and boot
• Well built, top quality interior
• Can easily carry seven people
• It handles really well for a people carrier
• Generous amount of standard kit
What we don't like
• Rearmost seats are not really suitable for adults
• The handbrake takes some getting used to
